Nie Maowen has more than 10 years of experience in data science. Prior joining NUS-ISS, he served as a Senior Engineer at Huawei International where he designed and implemented a multi-search system for online fashion products retrieval using image and text, incorporating the CLIP model. His experience in developing data science products for industry sectors include failure analysis and operation optimization for manufacture, customer analysis and commodity trading in finance, image retrieval for online shopping. He has research experience in both machine learning and deep learning including ensemble, multimodal pre-training models and large language models.

Before joining Huawei, he worked as a Data Scientist with Sembcorp Industry where he built data pipelines from Bloomberg financial data, transformed, and loaded them into Azure storage using data factory, delta lake and data lake. Earlier in his career, he held positions such as Lead Data Scientist, Data Manager at Infocomm Media Development Authority and Research Scientist at A*STAR. 

He has published multiple papers in international conferences and journals in artificial intelligence and data science.

Maowen graduated with a Bachelor Degree in Engineering, Computer Engineering from the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China and a PhD from Electrical and Computer Engineering Department, National University of Singapore.
